Are the play-off places in reach this season? Well with a positive attitude, anything is possible for Nottingham Forest after a decent run of form, something that would mark Martin O’Neill’s return to club in a very special way.
This season has been extremely turbulent for Forest (Reds fans must surely be bored of that statement by now), having started well but then drifted down the table as the campaign went on.
Now, with a late burst, they’re doing everything they can to get themselves back in contention for the play-off places.
That would have been the aim at the start of the season, having spent a lot of money improve the set-up at the City Ground but new players are still very much needed this summer as well.
Jack Robinson has been solid this season but with the option to strengthen the left-back position with a player like Southampton’s Matt Targett, that is something Nottingham Forest would have to seriously consider.
Targett, (who is valued at £6.3 million on Transfermarkt) is a top left-back that could make a real difference to Forest’s side next season.
Whilst Ryan Bertrand was out injured for Southampton, Matt Targett was given the freedom of playing on the left-hand-side.
He has made 19 appearances in all competitions and provided three assists, yet as soon as Bertrand came back, he was dropped to the bench once more.
Matt Targett himself will know how valuable he could be to a side like Nottingham Forest and for all concerned, it would be a great move. He’s just too good to waste and, having proved what he can do at Fulham last season, the Reds must keep keen eyes on him.
The former England U21 star is now still only 23-years-old and although it may be a costly transfer to push through, Nottingham Forest will also realise the potential that comes with the left-back.
