Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes it is in everyone’s best interests to see Nottingham Forest return to the Premier League.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ The Football Show (relayed via Nottinghamshire Live), the Anfield icon has stated that he would love to see Sabri Lamouchi’s side end their Championship era and make the transition back to top flight football.
“When you actually think of what Forest have actually achieved in the past and the accolades, (they’re) another great club that you’d love to see back,” Carragher said after reflecting on the buzz over Leeds nearing promotion.
The Reds have almost been forgotten by the Premier League – their last stint at the top level was 21 years ago. However, they could make their long-awaited return this season if they can pull off some magic once the Championship resumes.
Will Nottingham Forest be promoted this season?
As it stands, Forest are fifth in the table and on course to compete in this year’s play-offs to snatch the third and final promotion slot into the top tier.
Carragher has reminisced over the times he would visit the City Ground as a child and how Forest were perceived as a big team in those days.
“It’s been great getting new teams in, but it’s always nice to get teams back that you can reminisce about, look back at what they achieved and realise those special times that they had in the top league,” the ex-defender said. “I think we’d all agree we’d love to see them back in the Premier League.”
With their positive run of form this season, it’s very possible they could win the play-offs and return to the Premier League. Forest currently have 60 points and are only behind Brentford in the table on goal difference. The Reds have won 16 games and lost nine, scoring a total of 48 goals across the campaign. Carragher’s wishes could well materialise over the coming weeks.
