Nottingham Forest are one of the several teams in the running to acquire Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Paz this summer.
According to Record (via Sport Witness), Sabri Lamouchi has got his eye on the 22-year-old but so have Brentford and Reading. Brazilian side Fortaleza are also interested in Paz, but are only looking to bring him in on loan.
Sporting are looking for no less than €3million (£2.6m) from the sale of their midfielder and are also demanding 30% of any future sale.
Should Forest sign Mbaye Diagne this summer?
Paz has featured just once for Sporting’s first team, a cameo appearance against Vorskla in the Europa League in December 2018. He also suffered cruciate ligament damage to his knee last year and has only recently returned to action with his side’s U23 team (via Transfermarkt).
A defensive midfielder by trade, Paz has shifted position when required and taken on a role on the right-hand side as well as completely altering his style of play to slot in at right-back.
In total, the midfield man has tallied one goal contribution in his entire career so far, an assist for the Sporting CP B team.
Aside from his versatility across the midfield and ability to play as a full-back, Paz doesn’t bring much to the table to have Nottingham Forest tripping over themselves to get his signature.
It’s frankly baffling that four potential clubs are showing interest in a 22-year-old who has next to no senior experience, one goal contribution across his whole career and has just returned from a serious injury.
Forest are a club with history who can attract much better players with proven abilities in front of goal. The Reds are currently fifth in the Championship table and could be looking at promotion if they conquer this season’s play-offs. Should they progress into the Premier League, players of a much higher calibre than Paz will be looking to make their move.
