It’s 40 years to the day that Nottingham Forest celebrated their second European title having reclaimed their crown for the second year running.
Nottingham Forest and their fans are celebrating the memory of their second European Cup victory as they look back at their title-retaining win over Hamburger SV.
Will 2020/21 be a season to remember for Nottingham Forest?
The Reds played out a tight match, winning by just the one goal netted by John Robertson early on. But it was enough to see off the West German outfit on the big stage in Madrid.
One Forest supporter has reflected on the game, dubbing it a ‘majestic performance’. The club, spearheaded by Brian Clough, marked another historic victory and wrote their names in footballing folklore as the first team to win the European more times than their first division title.
I was there, with my Dad. A majestic performance. Birtles ran and ran and ran.
Then my first ever Paella at 2am, with about 300 happy drunks in the restaurant.
Kudos to the Hamburg fans, who behaved like gentlemen throughout.

Another Red has said it still amazes them when they look back and reflect on the win. It is indeed a superb achievement, and Nottingham Forest join just seven other sides in the history of the competition to win back-to-back European finals (via FourFourTwo).
I don’t care if it was a lifetime ago, it still amazes me we’ve won it twice and will always be an amazing achievement.
