Darren Moore will likely be keen to strengthen his defence this summer, following the departures of Jonny Evans and Gareth McAuley.
Something of a squad exodus has occurred at the Hawthorns this summer, following the club’s relegation from the Premier League last season. These outgoings have left the Baggies’ squad very light on numbers, and Darren Moore with a big rebuilding job on his hands.
Even after the acquisitions of Kyle Bartley and the young Manchester City loanee, Tosin Adarabioyo, only three centre-backs are currently registered in West Brom’s first team squad.
Moore has to add further quality and depth to his back line during this transfer window if he is to stand any chance of guiding his club back to the top flight at the first time of asking.
With so much work to do in the market already though, any cheap buys or loan deals that the Baggies can see done will be of great benefit. For that reason, Moore should make an audacious swoop to bag Arsenal’s Rob Holding on a loan deal ahead of the upcoming campaign.
Since joining Arsenal from Bolton Wanderers in 2016, the 6’2” centre-back has seen a fair amount of first team action in North London. During this time the Englishman has turned in some eye-catching performances for the Gunners, most notably in the 2017 FA Cup Final victory over Chelsea.
However, at 22 years of age, playing week in week out is vital for the defender’s development. Arsenal also have enough alternative centre-back options to be able to compensate for Holding’s temporary departure – which means that a loan move this season would work for everyone.
Unai Emery is likely to prefer for Holding to join a fellow top flight outfit. If West Brom could guarantee the former England under-21 international regular game time though, then that could be enough to bring Holding back to the second tier for a season.
Being a first choice starter would suit Holding and Arsenal, and such a deal should also work for West Brom, who would be adding undeniable quality to their defence in an affordable manner.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
