Burnley are reportedly interested in signing winger Bright Osayi-Samuel from QPR this summer.
Lancashire Live reported that the Clarets are among several clubs showing an interest in the 22-year-old, whose contract with the London-based club expires next year.
As reported by Football Insider this week, a £5m deal had been agreed with Club Brugge, only for the player to back out of the move when he had been due for a medical in Belgium.
Osayi-Samuel enjoyed an impressive season with QPR in the Championship, scoring six goals and supplying nine assists in 40 appearances during the 2019/20 campaign. Although he is predominantly a right winger, he showed his versatility in recent games by playing as a central attacking midfielder or as an out-and-out striker. [via TransferMarkt]
The 22-year-old has a flair for taking on opponents, completing 2.9 dribbles and drawing 1.9 fouls per game. He can also use the ball to good effect, with match averages of 1.2 shots and 1.2 key passes. [via WhoScored]
His role as a right winger should straight away make him an attractive option to Sean Dyche, as this is an area where Burnley are very light, with Johann Berg Gudmundsson the only natural right-sided winger at Turf Moor.
In recent weeks, central midfielder Josh Brownhill and left-back Erik Pieters had played in that role, with options left sparse by injury to Gudmundsson and last month’s departures of Jeff Hendrick and Aaron Lennon.
This is a move which makes every sense for Burnley – they are short of right-sided wingers and Osayi-Samuel boasts a decent return of goals and assists. Indeed, his figure for the latter is three more than the Clarets’ joint-leading assists providers Dwight McNeil and Ashley Westwood.

Also, £5m is a rather modest benchmark, while his abortive transfer to Club Brugge may hint that he would prefer to remain in England. Even if Burnley don’t manage to sign him, they should at least try hard enough to a point where, if it doesn’t come off, they will feel that they couldn’t have done any more in attempting to land him.
