Queens Park Rangers may have been embarrassed by fierce local rivals Brentford in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off, some fans still managed to find a positive from it – the performance of Conor Masterson.
Mark Warburton’s side were 3-0 down by the time the referee blew his whistle for the half-time interval, with goals from Said Benrahma, Bryan Mbeumo and Ollie Watkins.
Nahki Wells got a goal back for the visitors just past the hour-mark, however it proved to be just a consolation (BBC) as the Superhoops had to make the short trip back to the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium with a sour taste of disappointment in their mouths.
However, as mentioned, whilst fans would have been angered and perhaps devastated with the showing they saw from the player’s they had on the pitch, Masterson’s performance appeared to attract some positivity amongst the fanbase on Twitter.
The 21-year-old centre-back may have only been brought on at half-time, but it appears he did a lot more than some of the other men on the field and had a large number of supporters calling for Warburton to start him in future games.
Here are just some of their reactions to the Irishman’s display…
Typically @QPR from QPR today. Masterson kelly and wallace have to start next game. Maybe move manning along side amos in midfield.

Would love masterson to start me he’s fantastic and what we need, I agree with Wallace I’ve always liked manning but recently he has not been good enough and today as soon as Cameron was put in the middle we were far better. We also need to stop hoofing the ball up with no Hugill

Like the look of Conor Masterson. Hopefully he gets a run in the #QPR side.

Masterson was easily the best performer that we had. He’s constantly aware of his position on the pitch, constantly communicating and looks calm and considered. We should build the central defence around him

A disappointing result for @QPR but another good performance from our young Defender Conor Masterson
Came on in the 2nd half and had a good 45 minutes, his passing is very good and seems calm on the ball, a key player for our defence surely this season and for the future pic.twitter.com/QChSgbBctb
