Two more Premier League clubs have reportedly joined the race to sign Ryan Manning from QPR.
London Football News reported that West Ham and Watford have both been made aware of the 23-year-old’s availability next year, with his current contract due to expire at the end of this season.
This latest Premier League interest comes in the wake of Football Insider claiming in recent days that Southampton were confident of agreeing a “cut-price” deal for him, with the same publication also citing Newcastle as one of the clubs chasing his signature.
While that has been a fixed position for him this season, he has played in almost every area of the pitch throughout his relatively short career to date, with most of his appearances made either on the left or through the middle of midfield – he has also played as a centre-forward on numerous occasions. Manning had been largely frozen out of the QPR side under Steve McClaren, for whom he played just six times, but has been a firm favourite of Warburton’s this season and he has repaid him with some strong performances.
He is the R’s second-highest rated performer on WhoScored for 2019/20 and has been the team’s leading assists provider with three to his name, as many has he had in total for the club prior to the current campaign.
Nobody in QPR colours has played more key passes per game than Manning’s 2.3, which is also his match average for successful tackles, and that too is the highest in Warburton’s squad. Add in an interceptions average of 1.4 per game and you have a converted left-back who is adept at snuffing out opposition attacks as well as contributing plenty to his own team going forward. It should come as no surprise to QPR that Manning’s fine performances this season have put him in the frame for a Premier League move.
With the R’s lying just one point outside the play-offs after 11 games, there is a decent chance that he might not have to leave west London to play in the top flight, but if they don’t achieve promotion this term, they may find it tough to hold on to the Irishman given the growing and justified level of Premier League interest in him.
