Queens Park Rangers: Fans praise Liam Kelly after debut shootout heroics

‘Great start’, ‘Liam Neuer’ – Lots of QPR fans full of praise for new ‘keeper after shootout win

QPR supporters were left delighted with Liam Kelly after the goalkeeper capped his debut for the club with two penalty-shootout saves as the team made it to the second round of the Carabao Cup after a 3-3 draw with Bristol City.

Kelly signed from Livingston in the summer, and started his life in English football with a topsy-turvy match in which QPR eventually prevailed after the Scot saved Bailey Wright’s sudden-death spot-kick.

City had led twice in the game, but Ryan Manning’s penalty four minutes from time sent the match into a shootout – allowing Kelly a chance to shine on debut.

Having earlier been beaten by an impressive free-kick from Liam Walsh, Kelly certainly seemed far more at home facing penalties, saving twice as he sealed the R’s passage through to the next round, where they will welcome Portsmouth to the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.

And supporters were quick to congratulate Kelly for his performance between the sticks, sending plenty of kind messages his way – including one which likened him to Manuel Neuer.

Fans certainly seemed upbeat as QPR continued their impressive start to the season – and let their feelings be known to their new ‘keeper after his shootout heroics:
