Queens Park Rangers should target Tommy Elphick

Queens Park Rangers have struggled to come to terms with the Championship in the current campaign as they’ve been well off the pace.

The Hoops have made full use of the summer transfer window in recent weeks as they managed to bring in the likes of Tomer Hemed and Nakhi Wells. Although, they are lacking any real quality and depth at the heart of the defence, so Steve McClaren will be desperate to get one more deal over the line prior to the deadline today.

Interestingly, the London club will want to climb their way up the table after such a poor start to proceedings, but they certainly enjoyed some success against Wigan Athletic and Bristol Rovers. So, if they can manage to strengthen by bringing in a central defender at some point today then they’ll find themselves in a good position.

One name that the Championship club could take a look at securing today is a fellow Championship defender, Tommy Elphick.

The Aston Villa defender hasn’t managed to force his way into Steve Bruce’s plans on a regular basis so far this season as he’s only called upon in the case of an injury. However, there’s no doubt that the 30-year-old could do an impressive job at Loftus Road and has previous experience in the Championship from his time at Brighton and Hove Albion and Bournemouth.

Queens Park Rangers have leaked goals so far this season and found themselves on the receiving end of a 7-1 thrashing at the Hawthorns recently, so it’s vital that McClaren can secure a defender today.
