Rangers keen on long-term deal but could be dealt unwelcome blow in January

While much of the talk amongst the Rangers fans here in the Transfer Tavern has naturally centred around the managerial saga at Ibrox, there is the small matter of the January window soon opening to contend with.

Indeed, it’s always a busy time of year for the punters propping up our bar and our local Light Blues sure do hope the club are able to strengthen, though reports from Football Insider haven’t come as welcome ones. They claim Gers loan star Declan John has interest south of the border, with interested parties understood to be keen on luring him away from Ibrox so soon after joining.

The Welshman joined the Glasgow giants on loan from Cardiff City on deadline day and, while the club are believed to be keen on keeping him in the long-term, the likes of Reading and Ipswich are thought to want to add him to their squads in January. Leeds United are another side reportedly keen, meaning the Gers certainly do have a battle on their hands.

As you can imagine, considering his good form since joining, the Rangers fans in our bar aren’t keen on seeing him go.

Landlord’s Verdict:

Losing John so soon would be a nightmare for Rangers. The Wales international gives the first-team so much balance and has proven to be a palpable attacking threat, so would leave a gaping hole in the side.
