Sheffield United: Blades fans react to Billy Sharp winning EFL’s Moment of the Year award

It has been an incredible campaign for Billy Sharp, hasn’t it Blades fans?

Despite being in the twilight of his career, the 33-year-old has shown no signs of slowing down for Sheffield United with his 23 goals in the Championship playing a pivotal role in helping the club position themselves as legitimate contenders for a top-two finish in May.

Sharp’s contributions were recognised last night at the Football League Awards as he won the Moment of the Year gong for surpassing Rickie Lambert’s total of 219 goals in January to become the highest scorer in 21st century in England.

The forward’s natural ability in-front of goal has seen him hit double figures on ten occasions during a career which has spanned over 15 years yet he has been particularly prolific since rejoining the Blades in 2015. Under the guidance of manager Chris Wilder, Sharp has found the back of the net on 68 occasions in just 123 games and will be desperate to secure a second promotion in three seasons at Bramall Lane.

A modern-hero for United, the Sheffield-born ace was lauded by these supporters who congratulated him for winning his award on Twitter.

Sharp will be looking to add to his tally for the season when his side head to St Andrew’s to face Birmingham City on Wednesday. A win over the Blues could see the Blades move further clear of Leeds United in the race for promotion if Marcelo Bielsa’s side slip-up against Preston North End.
