Sheffield United: Blades fans react to Sharp winning Players’ Player of the Season award

What a year it has been for everyone associated with Sheffield United.
After suffering the disappointment of missing out on the play-offs last season, Chris Wilder made a number of crucial additions to his squad to ensure that his side would be more suited for a sustained push for automatic promotion.
With the likes of John Egan, Oliver Norwood and David McGoldrick all moving to Bramall Lane, it was clear from the very start of the campaign that United would be in contention for a return to the Premier League yet they were still reliant on one man in particular to deliver the goods; Billy Sharp.
Having started the year in scintillating form by firing in 7 goals in his first 10 appearances, the 33-year-old continued to terrorise Championship defences as he found the back of the net on a further 16 occasions before suffering a hamstring injury against Millwall on April 13th.
Although he would miss the Blades’ crucial victories over Nottingham Forest and Hull City which saw them move three points clear of promotion rivals Leeds United, Sharp returned as a substitute on Saturday as his side secured a vital 2-0 win against Ipswich Town, a result which guaranteed a top-two finish for the Yorkshire-based outfit.
The forward’s incredible contributions for Wilder’s side over the past nine months were recognised last night as he was named the Player’s Player of the Year.
After the club announced on Twitter that Sharp had won this award, these fans congratulated him for his fantastic performances this season.

The former Southampton marksman will be hoping to add to his tally of 23 Championship goals in next week’s clash against Stoke City.
