Sheffield United are continuing to perform well in the Championship and look firmly on course to snatch at least a top six spot.
Manager Chris Wilder has done a superb job of getting his squad playing some excellent football, and they are where they are in the second tier on nothing other than merit.
The January addition of Gary Madine has added extra firepower to a squad which needed some more goals adding to it, and while it is a good signing, it could well have a negative impact on some of the other forwards in the Blades squad.
And one forward in particular who could be impacted is last season’s top goalscorer Leon Clarke, who is already being linked with a move away from Bramall Lane.
Clarke has not fired at all this season, but we here in the Tavern feel he remains an integral part of the Blades squad, and they should be doing all they can to hang on to the former Wolves man.
His experience will be invaluable for the Blades as they head into the run-in, and while Madine brings something the club didn’t have before with his height and presence, Clarke knows where the goal is, and has been one of Chris Wilder’s most trusted squad members the last two seasons.
While United press ahead and look to seal a top six finish, Clarke has his role to play, and it’s imperative United keep hold of all their striking options, especially if they fail to add anymore new faces before the end of January.
