Sheffield United: Wilder must be prepared to miss out on Dean Henderson - Championship

It has been an incredible year to be a Sheffield United supporter, hasn’t it?

After witnessing their side secure promotion to the Premier League in April following a superb Championship campaign, the Bramall Lane faithful will understandably be very excited to see what next season has in store for them.

With Chris Wilder at the helm, the Blades will undoubtedly be in safe hands in the top-flight yet it is important that he nails his recruitment this summer in order to give his team the best chance of competing amongst England’s elite club sides.

Although the 51-year-old will be looking to make a number of improvements to his squad, his number one priority simply has to be to sort out United’s goalkeeping issue.

Currently without a shot-stopper who is good enough to thrive in the Premier League, the Blades will understandably be wanting to bring in Dean Henderson on a permanent deal from Manchester United when the transfer window opens in July

Outstanding for the club during the 2018/19 campaign, the £2.25m-rated ace (via Transfermarkt) conceded just 41 goals in 46 appearances and kept a league-high 21 clean sheets.

Yet despite the fact that Henderson took his game to new heights during his loan spell with the Blades, it is far from certain that he will be playing for the club once again next season.

According to the Star, the Red Devils are reportedly unwilling to let the England under-21 international leave Old Trafford in a permanent switch and would instead only welcome a loan move.

Whereas Wilder may be open to such a deal, it is imperative that he prepares for the prospect of missing out on Henderson by lining up some alternative options as if he doesn’t, he could leave his side in a perilous position ahead of their first top-flight season in 12 years.

What do you think Blades fans? Are you confident that your side can secure a deal for Henderson? If the Red Devils ace doesn’t join your club this summer, who should Wilder target as his replacement? Let us know below.
