Many Sheffield Wednesday fans have responded on Twitter to their new man in charge who has welcomed himself to the fans.
Monk has previously managed Swansea, Leeds, Middlesbrough as well as Birmingham as he succeeds Lee Bullen at Hillsborough.
Steve Bruce left Wednesday in the summer as Newcastle United came calling. Bullen has been temporarily in charge since, getting them off to a decent start, winning four out of his seven games.
Wednesday sit in 11th in the Championship, having gathered nine points from their opening six – winning three and losing as many.
As a player, Monk enjoyed a brief loan spell with the Owls in the 2002/03 season and upon his return to Hillsborough, Monk announced his arrival on Twitter, saying: “Hi guys, it’s been a busy few days. Thank you to everyone for making me feel so welcome. I’m looking forward to the challenge & giving my all for the club. Now let’s get to work!! #wawaw”
Sheffield Wednesday fans gave mixed responses. Many flooded the Twitter page with tweets involving monks, others suggested it was a good appointment and some suggested it wasn’t.
