Chansiri and Luhukay failed to permanently sort problem position

Sheffield Wednesday are in desperate need of some fresh legs having witnessed the start that they’ve made to the current campaign.

It’s safe to say that the Owls have failed to hit the ground running as they appear to have taken a step backwards after finishing the last campaign positively. But, one big problem for them this summer was that they were under a transfer embargo, which was recently lifted by the EFL.

But, with positions still needing to be filled and improvements required on the field for the Owls, Jos Luhukay and the club’s chairman Dejphon Chansiri could be setting their side up for an even worse campaign than the last.

Indeed, Sheffield Wednesday are in desperate need of a central defender as this has been a problem position for them for some time now. The German boss had to deploy Daniel Pudil in an unfamiliar position at the heart of the defence last season and he failed to bring in a central defender permanently this time round.

Sadly, the Owls’ defensive weakness has already been exposed by two Championship clubs so far this season, with Wigan Atheltic scoring three on the opening day and Brentford netting two.

Of course, in a long and tiring season it’s important to make sure that you have enough quality in the right areas of the field in order to enjoy a successful campaign. But, it doesn’t look as if Jos Luhukay has managed to gear his side up for the challenges ahead due to the previous transfer restraints, as they’re still missing a quality central defender.
