Having led his side to a 12th place finish in the Championship earlier this month, Steve Bruce will undoubtedly be wanting to build a squad that will be capable of launching a push for promotion next season.
Yet in order to achieve this, he simply has to avoid making any mistakes in the transfer market as a failure to recruit sufficiently could result in the Owls finding it difficult to compete in what is arguably the most unforgiving league in world football.
Although Wednesday need to make improvements in a number of different positions, their number one priority over the coming months has to be to find a replacement for the departing Michael Hector.
A stand-out performer during the 2018/19 campaign for the Owls, the 26-year-old’s outstanding levels of consistency resulted in him being named the club’s Player of the Year earlier this month.
Yet with the defender’s loan spell from Chelsea scheduled to run out next week (via Transfermarkt), it is unclear whether Wednesday will be able to convince him to make a permanent move this summer.
If they can’t secure Hector’s services, the Yorkshire-based outfit should do everything they possibly can to secure a move for one of the most exciting young prospects in Scotland.
According to the Scottish Sun, Wednesday are reportedly interested in signing Stuart Findlay from Kilmarnock with Bruce personally making the trip north of the border to watch him in action against Hearts earlier this month.
An incredibly talented player, the £450k-rated ace (via Transfermarkt) was a key reason for why Killie were able to secure a third-place finish behind Celtic and Rangers in the Scottish Premiership.
Although it may prove to be difficult to convince Findlay to give up the prospect of Europa League football next season, it may be worth Bruce splashing the cash to try and bring him to Hillsborough as he has clearly has the potential to become a top defender in the future.
What do you think Wednesday fans? Should Bruce swoop for Findlay if he cannot sign Hector this summer? Are you confident that your side can launch a bid for promotion next season? Let us know below.
