Former Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Wilson has backed Garry Monk to turn things around at Hillsborough.
Speaking to Dom Howson at Yorkshire Live, the ex-Northern Ireland international thinks fans must give Monk time to work with the players he has in order to resurrect their poor form.
“There’s not going to be millions and millions splashing around to buy players,” Wilson said. “So if that is the case you have to give him [Monk] time to work with what he has got.”
The 41-year-old took over the role as Wednesday head coach in September following the dismissal of Steve Bruce. Monk had the Owls as high as third place on Boxing Day but has since endured a torrid run of form. The Yorkshire outfit has tumbled down the table and now sit in a dismal 15th place after losing 15 Championship matches this season.

Wilson continued: “It would be magnificent to see both teams in Sheffield back in the Premier League again but patience is at a premium at times in football now and to say that you need time and support is tough when results are not there.”
Wednesday could see a mass exodus in the summer as they face the prospect of 12 senior players coming to the end of their contracts as well as five loan players being due to return to their parent clubs (via Transfermarkt).
Wilson has praised rivals Sheffield United for their promotion into the Premier League, which they have taken by storm. The Blades are currently seventh in the table, level on points with Wolves who sit in the final qualification spot for the Europa League.
He said: “Just look at the blueprint Sheffield United have. They are bitter rivals across the city but so what? They [United] have got a recruitment policy that works and they haven’t shelled out millions and millions so it can be done.
“If Wednesday were to get up into the Premier League and stay there they would be up there with a lot of the big clubs – they can command the crowds.”
