Dominic Iorfa is available for Saturday’s match against Millwall after his suspension came to an end, as has been confirmed by Sheffield Wednesday.
He missed the first two games of the 2019/20 campaign – against Reading and Barnsley – having been sent off in the final game of last season against Queens Park Rangers, as per Transfermarkt.
Having joined the Owls halfway through last season, Iorfa started nine Championship matches and came off the bench in three, scoring three goals and getting one assist, as per WhoScored.
The 24-year-old also averaged 2.2 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 3 clearances per game, as well as completing 0.7 dribbles.
With his main position being right-back last season, he could find himself in direct competition with Moses Odubajo this campaign.
In the two games he has played this season, Wednesday’s new man has averaged 1.5 tackles, 1 interception and 1.5 clearances per game, as well as making 0.5 dribbles per game.
This indicates the pair could have an intriguing battle for the right-back position throughout the campaign – unless Iorfa is moved into centre-back.
Though Odubajo averaged 1.5 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, 1.1 clearances and 0.8 dribbles throughout the last season, showing he may not be able to match up with Iorfa over a longer period of time.
The former Wolves man has shown he can be reliable while also carrying a threat at the other end of the pitch, as best highlighted by his goal and assist against Blackburn Rovers, as shown in the highlights video on officialswfc.
Having Iorfa back in action will be a big boost for Sheffield Wednesday, who have already had an encouraging start to the campaign with two wins in two.
To have two quality options at right-back gives Bullen a dilemma, though considering how good he was last season, it is likely Iorfa will be able to get into the side, which will further improve a defence that has only conceded one goal in two games.
Everyone should, of course, not get carried away for a while, but this is certainly another encouraging sign for the club.
