Sheffield Wednesday: Fans delighted that Fernando Forestieri suspension is over

Fernando Forestieri will be available for selection for Sheffield Wednesday when the Championship resumes following the international break.

The 29-year-old has been unavailable for the Owls’ last six matches after being suspended by the Football Association for using racist language in their pre-season friendly against Mansfield Town in 2018.

But he served the final game of that ban when he sat out their 1-0 win over Wigan Athletic on Saturday, and is therefore eligible for Wednesday’s next game which is against Cardiff City.

Forestieri is arguably one of the most talented players at the South Yorkshire club and when he first joined he was vitally important to them. Indeed in his first season at Hillsborough, he netted 15 times and created eight assists, whilst in his second term he managed 12 goals and six assists.

However, injuries and suspension have seen him make just 38 appearances in the last three seasons (including the start of this one) which has prevented him from making a huge impact.

That said, he is still a talented player and with the side currently performing well under Garry Monk he will want to make up for lost time and help the Owls in their promotion battle when he returns.

The Sheffield Wednesday fans are delighted that he is now available following his suspension, with many excited by the prospect of him partnering Steven Fletcher up front.
