Sheffield Wednesday: Fans delighted with display from Massimo Luongo

Sheffield Wednesday’s emphatic 4-0 win against Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon will have sent a number of their fans into overdrive, however it appears many of them decided to highlight the role Massimo Luongo played in that victory.
The Owls got their business done in the first half when they had Jordan Rhodes hit a hat-trick and Steven Fletcher bag a goal just before the half-time whistle as Garry Monk’s side jumped into the play-off spots (BBC).
Indeed, whilst the forwards were always going to be the men to be in the headlines for the Yorkshire outfit, it appears many of the club’s faithful would not have minded seeing Luongo take a place on, perhaps, the back page of a local newspaper after a fine performance in the middle of the park.
According to the data collected by WhoScored, the 28-year-old Australia international managed to win seven aerial battles and made two interceptions and one clearance.
Clearly, that display impressed a number of the Hillsborough faithful on Twitter, with many of them gushing over his contribution on the social media site after the game.
Here are just some of their reactions…
Back from Forest. Nice to watch an uneventful 2nd half and still walk away with a 4-0 win! Excellent win, good performances all over the pitch but Bannan and Luongo ran the game and were outstanding. Cracking day! #swfc

Haven’t seen game, but we always seem to play better with Luongo in the team, no? #swfc #wawaw

Great performance by @swfc today. Great to see Rhodes and fletcher scoring and working together and will rightly get the plaudits. For me luongo was outstanding again. A mention though for Cam Dawson has done everything right since coming in #swfc

Of course, but Luongo was super today. Looks an absolute bargain

The Rhodes hat trick has overshadowed just how good Luongo and Bannan were. It was 2v3 in the middle and the 2 won the battle. Good as Hutchinson has played recently, that’s our best midfield pairing.

Dare I say it luongo brought a calmness to the middle of the park, as much as I like Hutchinson we looked calm and composed in the middle today

Luongo was excellent and it’s the best pairing with @bazzabannan25 https://t.co/5aYs02HHVs

Thought Luongo was excellent today. No bookings unlike Sam. Think Sam is going to struggle to get back in now #swfc
