Sheffield Wednesday: Fans praise Keiren Westwood after Wigan performance

Sheffield Wednesday got back to winning ways on Saturday as they beat Wigan Athletic 1-0 at Hillsborough.

The Owls had gone into the game on the back of a defeat against Hull City, but managed to grind out three points to keep pace with the play-off race.

Going into the international break they sit just two places and one point behind Bristol City in sixth, but it could have been a larger margin had goalkeeper Keiren Westwood not been at his best against the Latics.

The 34-year-old made three terrific saves to ensure it remained 1-0. His first was to tip Kieffer Moore’s point blank header onto the crossbar, before then making an outstanding double save to deny both Gavin Massey and Jamal Lowe.

His performance ensured that Garry Monk’s side kept only their third Championship clean sheet of the season, and that they won their first home game in four attempts in all competitions (via Soccerway).

Naturally, the importance of Westwood’s display did not go unnoticed by the Sheffield Wednesday supporters. And when the club posted a clip of his outstanding save to deny Moore on Twitter, many fans responded with praise for the Irishman with some claiming that he is the best goalkeeper in the division.

Here is what a selection of Owls fans had to say about Westwood’s save and performance in general…
