Sheffield Wednesday fans react as Lee and Hooper return to action

Sheffield Wednesday supporters have been in fine voice in recent times after seeing their side head into the international break off the back of a three-match winning streak.

Jos Luhukay’s men made a sluggish start to the 2018/19 Championship campaign in failing to win any of their first three games, but have since embarked on an impressive winning run to move up to 11th in the table. The Owls got the better of Millwall 2-1 back on August 22 before beating Ipswich Town at Hillsborough by the same scoreline a few days later, and then added a third straight 2-1 success by edging past struggling Reading in their last match before the current international break.

Thus, there have been many thrilled Wednesday fans up and down the country in recent times, several of whom have expressed even greater delight at the news that Kieran Lee and Gary Hooper returned from injury for the club’s Under-23 team on Monday.

30-year-old Lee has been at the Yorkshire giants since 2012 but hasn’t featured in the Owls’ first team since December last year in their 3-1 defeat at Norwich City, while striker Hooper is another who has spent a lengthy spell on the sidelines, with his most recent senior appearance coming back on Boxing Day.

Yet the club has been given a big double boost as both returned to action for the club’s development squad earlier this week in their 2-1 success over Colchester United, much to the excitement of several Wednesday fans…
