Sheffield Wednesday: Fans react to Garry Monk’s comments after Hull City defeat

Many Sheffield Wednesday supporters have been reacting on social media in response to comments made by Garry Monk after the Owls were beaten away to Hull City on Tuesday night, as quoted by the Hillsborough natives.

The Owls travelled to the KCOM Stadium looking to achieve their sixth win of the Championship campaign, but instead fell to their fourth defeat and third in six games when Tom Eaves scored the only goal of the fixture.

Hull enjoyed 56.1% of the ball and managed eight shots on Keiren Westwood’s net before referee Andy Davies called a halt to proceedings, per WhoScored data, but Monk suggested after the game that his side were ‘unfortunate’ to leave empty-handed.

“We were unfortunate to come away with nothing from tonight’s game,” Monk said. “But good teams respond and that’s what we want on Saturday”

Sheffield Wednesday may have enjoyed less time in possession, but the visitors boasted more shots (12) and more on target (three) than Hull achieved. However, the Owls also completed fewer passes than the Tigers (65% to 76%), were dispossessed 14 times and were dribbled past on nine occasions, ending the night with a 59% tackle success rate.

Fans saw the performance as ’embarrassing’ and reacted to Monk’s comments by claiming they ‘deserved nothing’ against a Hull side now within three points of their Owls.

Here are some of the responses shared…
