A number of Sheffield Wednesday fans on Twitter appear to feel time is up for Kieran Lee after witnessing his performance for the Owls against Reading on Saturday afternoon.
The Yorkshire-based outfit’s poor form in the Championship continued as their winless streak extended to six games at the hands of the Royals who ran out as 3-0 winners at Hillsborough (BBC).
The defeat means Wednesday have slipped down the table and currently sit nine points adrift of a play-off spot, despite having harboured hopes of potentially playing Premier League football next season following a decent start to the campaign.
Lee played the full 90 minutes for the Owls however he was powerless in helping Garry Monk’s side avoid the heavy loss and it has led to some of the club’s faithful suggesting that he needs to seek pastures new in the summer.
The 31-year-old has struggled with injuries in recent years which meant he missed the second half of the 2017/18 football schedule as well as almost the whole of the 18/19 season (per TransferMarkt). Indeed, he has since become a rather important figure for the current manager, as he appears to have put those problems behind him with 20 appearances to date in the Championship (TransferMarkt).
However, that does not seem to have stopped fans on Twitter from suggesting that the midfielder’s time at Hillsborough should be nearing an end, especially with the player’s contract expiring in the summer.
Here are just some of their reactions regarding the future of the £450k-rated Lee…
I truly feel sorry for Kieran Lee. He’s just not got it anymore. The game passes him by. Heartbreaking for player who has given his all for #swfc and never walked off the pitch thinking anything other.

Been my favourite Wednesday player over the last few years. Such a great all rounder. Like you say, full of commitment and and passion too. But, time catches up with even the very best.
