Sheffield Wednesday caretaker manager Lee Bullen has been praising Julian Borner following his display against Luton Town, as reported by The Yorkshire Post.
The German defender was indomitable at the back for the Owls, as they went on to beat Luton 1-0 thanks to a goal from Kadeem Harris.
Speaking of the 28-year-old, Bullen said: “He was outstanding [on Tuesday], it was nuts and bolts defending. He does not crave the limelight and just wants to get his head on things and kick things.
“His positional play was excellent and him and Tom Lees were outstanding. The two full-backs were also magnificent.”
Borner was given Man of the Match by WhoScored for his performance against Luton with a rating of 7.8.
Throughout the 90minutes he made one tackle, seven clearances and three interceptions, while he also won five aerial duels.
His main contributions were defensive, but the German was also efficient on the ball, as he completed 94% of the 48 passes he attempted during the match against the Hatters.
This isn’t his only impressive performance for Bullen’s side this season though, as he has played every minute of this campaign, helping to keep two clean sheets, while conceding just two goals across four matches.
Borner has been effective since joining from Arminia Bielefeld this summer and already looks as though he could become a very popular player at Hillsborough.
Bullen is correct to pick him out for praise and if the German carries on with these performances he will likely be doing that plenty of times going forward.
