Sheffield Wednesday youngster Liam Shaw has joined National League side Chesterfield on loan (via swfc.co.uk).
The 18-year-old is yet to play for the Owls, but now has the opportunity to get some first-team football under his belt.
Shaw has been at Wednesday since the age of eight and signed his first professional contract with the South Yorkshire club in December 2018.
He was a regular for the under-18s last year playing in an attacking midfield role and even helped them win a league and play-off double (via swfc.co.uk).
This term he has been part of the Under-23 squad and even scored in their game against Wigan Athletic last Saturday.
But the Owls have decided that now is the right time for him to get some first-team football under his belt and have allowed him to join the Spireites on a one-month loan deal.
Speaking to Chesterfield’s official website about the move, Shaw said: “It’s a great opportunity for me to hopefully get some first-team action. I’m hoping to add some goals and assists to the team.”
He could make his debut for the club in their game against Harrogate Town on Saturday.
On paper, this looks like a great move for Shaw to go out and get his first experience playing some first-team football.
Chesterfield is only a short distance away from Sheffield so it is not a major relocation for the 18-year-old and working under the experienced John Sheridan will be beneficial to him.
If it goes well in this initial month, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the two clubs come to a further agreement which sees him spend more time this season at the Proact Stadium.
