Sheffield Wednesday: Owls fans react on Twitter to Bannan’s performance against Bristol City - Sheffield Wednesday

After conceding a heart-breaking equaliser against Norwich City on Good Friday, Sheffield Wednesday knew that anything other than a victory over Bristol City would kill off their slim play-off hopes.

However, with their opponents also fighting for a top-six finish in the Championship this season, it would require a mammoth effort at Hillsborough to secure all three points on Easter Monday.

Needing one of his players to step-up against the Robins, Steve Bruce placed his faith in Barry Bannan to come up with the goods, a decision which paid off emphatically.

After dominating the early period of the game, the Owls made the breakthrough in the 17th minute as the Scotland international picked up the ball 30-yards out before unleashing an unstoppable strike which left Max O’Leary stranded in the City goal.

Bannan then went from goalscorer to provider as he delivered a delightful ball to Lucas Joao who doubled his side’s lead, taking his personal tally for the season into double figures. Despite the Robins creating several chances in the second-half, Wednesday held on to move within four points of the play-off positions.

After the game, these fans took to Twitter to express their delight with Bannan’s performance against City.

Bruce’s side will be hoping to make it back-to-back victories in the second tier when they head to Deepdale on Saturday to face Preston North End.
