Sheffield Wednesday: Owls fans react to Michael Hector’s award win

Sheffield Wednesday: Owls fans react to Michael Hector’s award win - Sheffield Wednesday

When Michael Hector joined Sheffield Wednesday on a season-long loan from Chelsea last summer, not many of the club’s supporters would have predicted just how big of an impact that he would go on to have at Hillsborough.

The Jamaican international’s move to the Owls would have been concerning for some as despite only being 26-years-old, he had earned the reputation of being somewhat of a journeyman having played for no fewer than 16 clubs in his career.

However, after making a bright start for his new side, Hector began to establish himself as a regular starter under the guidance of Jos Luhukay and produced a number of stand-out performances against the likes of Sheffield United, Preston North End and Middlesbrough.

Since chairman Dejphon Chansiri decided to replace the Portuguese manager with Steve Bruce at the turn of the year, the defender has arguably developed even further as a player and is undoubtedly one of the key reasons for why Wednesday are on track for a top-ten finish in the Championship.

Therefore, it was of little surprise that the Sheffield Star named Hector as the Owls’ Player of the Year on Monday (via the club’s official website).

Reacting on Twitter to the news, these Wednesday fans all responded in the same way by begging the club to extend his stay at Hillsborough.

With the likes of David Luiz, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger all ahead of Hector in the pecking order at Chelsea, it would not be surprising if Bruce tries to sign him of a permanent deal in the summer.
