Sheffield Wednesday: Garry Monk could be boosted by the return of injured duo

Sheffield Wednesday: Garry Monk could be boosted by the return of injured duo - Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday have had a tough time of late as they have gone four league games without a win and therefore need to bounce back soon.

Tomorrow night’s clash against Luton provides a perfect opportunity to do so given the Hatters are bottom of the Championship, though the Owls struggled to a 1-1 draw with relegation-threatened Barnsley last time out, having had just 44% possession. However, they are now also six points off the play-off places and that means they need to be almost faultless over the next few games if the top six is to remain a realistic target.

Garry Monk has admitted his mistakes (per the Star) in the recent run of one win in eight league games, but he has been hindered by an injury to several important players, with Adam Reach and Moses Odubajo missing out against the Tykes. Others like Morgan Fox and Massimo Luongo have been absent in recent games against Millwall and Barnsley because of knocks, and the latter has also been suspended after picking up a red card against Blackburn a few weeks ago.

That pair had been ever-present at Hillsborough this term, making 26 and 21 appearances respectively, and therefore they could make what would be a welcome return against Luton, with Monk stating (via the Star) that he is “hopeful” that they will be available.

Fox especially has been in good form recently with three WhoScored ratings of more than seven in the last six games, and given that some fans have been singing his praises for much of the season, it is likely that his comeback would boost the team. At the very least, it would allow Monk to play a natural left-back instead of Liam Palmer filling in, although Fox’s defensive qualities, with 2.2 tackles and 1.3 interceptions per game, show that he’d likely enhance the Owls’ chances of keeping a clean sheet.

Owls fans, are you keen to see Fox and Luongo back in action against Luton, and will their presence be enough to bring about a return to winning ways? Tell us what you think!
