Unsung hero: Adam Reach shines despite Sheffield Wednesday loss

Sheffield Wednesday lost for the first time this season on the weekend, going down 1-0 against Millwall.

However, there was one reliable man – among others – who can hold his head high in defeat and that is Adam Reach.

Lee Bullen has previously spoken of how Reach is an important player for the Owls, as reported by The Star, which has been supported by his most recent performance.

Sam Hutchinson and Kadeem Harris were the only two Sheffield Wednesday players who got a higher rating on WhoScored than Reach’s 6.7.

The 26-year-old had the lowest pass completion rate in the team with 72%, but this will have partly been down to his attempts to be progressive in his play, which is signified by the fact he made two key passes – a number which was only exceeded by Harris.

Reach was also closest to scoring an all-important goal for Wednesday, with the first of his two shots just about being kept out by Bartosz Bialkowski, while the second was an effort which was audacious and well-hit in equal measure, as he swivelled round to hit a half volley from distance, which ended up hitting the bar and going over.

He made a defensive contribution to the side as well, making two tackles and one clearance as well as winning one aerial duel throughout the game.

This match offered a snapshot into the impact Reach can have for Wednesday in both attack and defence, even if he and his teammates weren’t quite able to take anything from The Den in terms of points.
