Stoke City haven’t made a great start to life in the Championship.
The Potters were relegated from the Premier League after a dreadful run of form under Mark Hughes’ stewardship. Paul Lambert was given the job but was unable to save his side from relegation. He was replaced at the helm by former Derby boss, Gary Rowett, to much excitement over the course of the summer.
Still, those from the Potteries have made a poor start to the season after losing their opening fixture against Leeds United. Draws against both Brentford and Preston have left the Potters languishing near the relegation zone. Fortunately, EFL clubs can sign players on loan until the end of the month.
Therefore, Stoke should attempt to sign Dominic Solanke from Liverpool. Valued at £9m by Transfermarkt, the England international joined the Reds from Chelsea last summer after his contract expired at Stamford Bridge. He made 21 appearances in the Premier League but found the back of the net just once. With Daniel Sturridge fit again, Solanke is pushed further down the pecking order and could use a loan move.
A tall, powerful forward, Solanke can hold the ball up and is a huge threat in the air. His style of play is perfectly suited to the Championship, and he would prove to be an excellent addition to the squad. With Stoke selling Xherdan Shaqiri to Liverpool earlier in the summer, they could hold the advantage in the race for his signature.
The 20-year-old needs to be playing first-team football to aid his development – a move to the bet365 Stadium makes perfect sense for all parties.
