Hughes reveals exciting Stoke transfer plans in bid to challenge for Europe

As quoted by The Stoke Sentinel, Mark Hughes has revealed he wants players for the first XI at Stoke City in January – exciting our resident Potters fans here in the Transfer Tavern.

Many Stoke fans here by the bar are harbouring dreams of reaching Europe this season after a sluggish start to the year left them thinking that only mid-table was what they could achieve.

They’ve certainly turned things around now, though, and are well in the hunt with the likes of Everton, Watford and West Brom for those continental spots.

Any advantage that can be gained in January, then, could prove the difference between making the top seven and not which is why it appears Hughes is aiming for some quality to help boost the club’s chances.

The former Blackburn Rovers boss said:

“We are constantly looking at opportunities and I imagine once agents get over the Christmas period they will start making calls.

“We are not looking for squad players, we are looking for players that would have an immediate impact on the first 11. We feel we have good areas where we can help the team.”

Stoke are currently twelfth in the Premier League table on 20 points but it is incredibly close in that area of the standings.

Just three points separates them from seventh placed West Brom and so as we head into the crucial Christmas period, any of the sides around that area could steal a march on the others.
