Ibrahim Afellay’s contract has been terminated by mutual consent

Stoke City will be desperate to return to winning ways after losing 2-0 against Preston North End in their last Championship outing, with Hull City up next.

The Potters haven’t managed to hit top form since Nathan Jones took charge at the club, despite getting the better of Leeds United at the bet365 Stadium recently.

And, the Staffordshire club recently made a joint-decision regarding a particular player, as according to Stoke City’s official Twitter account, Ibrahim Afellay’s contract has been terminated by mutual consent.

Interestingly, the Dutchman had six months to run on his existing contract and is now free to find another club.

He only managed to make eight appearances in all competitions last season and he failed to feature in the current campaign for the Potters.

Afellay spent three-and-a-half years at the bet365 Stadium, making 55 league and cup appearances and scoring three goals. But, injuries got the better of him in the end as he spent a large amount of time out on the sidelines.

THE VERDICT:

Stoke City won’t be too bothered about the Dutchman’s departure as he hasn’t been able to make an impact at the club in recent times, due to his injury troubles.

Ibrahim Afellay, who is valued at £1.35 million (by Transfermarkt), managed to put in some impressive performances during his time at the club, but he’ll now need to look for another club.
