Stoke City will be looking to secure their first win under new boss Nathan Jones later on today, after suffering two successive defeats at the hands of Brentford and Shrewsbury.
The Potters are currently eight points off securing a play-off place in the Championship, but an incredible run of form could soon turn things around for the Staffordshire club.
Sadly, things won’t get any easier for Jones and his side today as they’ll welcome league leaders Leeds United to the bet365 Stadium. Marcelo Bielsa’s side have been criticised heavily for the ‘spygate’ incident recently, but their performances on the field can’t be questioned, so Jones can expect another difficult afternoon.
Nevertheless, Jones will make a name for himself if this Stoke PAIR add to Bielsa’s troubles…
Benik Afobe’s permanent move to Stoke City was pushed through earlier on this month, and the Englishman managed to celebrate by scoring a goal last time out against Brentford.
He has been arguably the standout performer for the Potters in the current campaign, having produced eight goals and two assists, but things have gone quiet over the past couple of months after his lightning start to proceedings.
Nevertheless, he will have a huge part to play later on today as his presence and goalscoring ability could really harm a Leeds United defence that been liable to errors at times.
Ashley Williams joined Stoke City on a season-long loan from Everton back in the summer transfer window.
The Welshman has been criticised at times for his error-ridden performances in the side, but no one can take anything away from his performance last time out in the Championship. Despite the Potters letting in three goals, the central defender made some telling interventions which helped keep the score down.
Therefore, his experience and quality could prove crucial against arguably the most dangerous attack in the Championship, with the likes of Jack Clarke, Pablo Hernandez and Kemar Roofe looking to make things happen.
