Our Stoke City fans here in the Transfer Tavern are looking for signings to build on their decent start to the season but, as quoted by The Mirror, Mark Hughes appears to have keeping players at the club on his mind.
The Potters are going along nicely this season but will have to step up a notch, you feel, if they want to qualify for Europe.
That’s why you’d imagine they want to keep their squad together as much as possible as suggested by Hughes in talking about attacking star Bojan.
The Spaniard is subject to interest from Middlesbrough in this window and with him not playing anywhere near as much as he is used to for Stoke, you could understand why he may want to move.
Indeed, you’d have thought his manager would have been fairly open to letting him leave but it appears the ex-Blackburn Rovers boss would like to keep him.
Hughes said of the situation:
“He wasn’t fit for the game [at Sunderland at the weekend.] But we would like him to stay with us.
“If Bojan and his advisers feel that is the best thing for his career we will have to wait and see and have further discussions about it.
“Ideally, he just needs to settle down and focus on his career at Stoke.”
We could be about to see a dramatic u-turn in this situation then and, as we go into the second half of this window, where Bojan’s future lies remains to be anyone’s guess.
