Speaking to Radio Stoke and quoted by The Stoke Sentinel, Stoke City chairman Peter Coates has revealed that he shares the same stance over the futures of current on-loan pair Lee Grant and Bruno Martins-Indi.
That is to say that, with Mark Hughes reportedly wanting to sign the players on a permanent basis Coates is more than happy to help see those deals through in the near future.
That will come as good news to our resident Potters fans here in the Transfer Tavern who have likewise been impressed with the two temporary Stoke players so far this season.
Grant, who came in from Derby County, has helped shore up the Stoke defence with his displays in goal as Jack Butland continues to return from a lengthy lay-off whilst Martins-Indi has also been key at the back having adapted to the Premier League pretty seamlessly.
Despite a rocky start, ‘Sparky’ has seemingly found a welcome remedy to his early season woes and both look like solid enough signings.
Coates was quoted as saying of the pair:
“We would like to keep them both and are waiting on that and will hopefully be successful. He (Martins Indi) has been part of our success. He and Ryan (Shawcross) have played well together and he’s a very good guy around the club and around the team. People like that are so important.”
Martins-Indi joined on the final day of the summer window from FC Porto in Portugal and has represented his nation, the Netherlands, on a number of occasions, including at the 2014 World Cup.
Both players will be looking to start in Stoke’s next Premier League game this weekend, a home game against Bournemouth.
