Stoke City in audacious £11m bid for imposing midfielder, want to wrap £50k a week deal up imminently

Stoke fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are crossing their fingers after hearing they could sign this Belgium international for such a low price.

According to Calcio Mercato (via talkSPORT), the Potters are set to hold talks with Zenit Saint Petersburg midfielder Axel Witsel as they try and land the Belgian superstar.

The 27-year-old is looking to move on to bigger things after spending four years in Russia and Stoke could be his answer.

Mark Hughes is reportedly willing to offer £11m for Witsel as he looks to continue his transformation of the previously unfashionable outfit.

After years of being looked upon as solely a solid team, the club have brought in the likes of stylish Champions League winners Xherdan Shaqiri and Bojan in recent months.

The Potters are thought to be hoping to secure a deal before the start of the Euros and are believed to be ready to offer him a long-term deal worth more than £50,000-a-week.

Such is the stature of the former Benfica star, the likes of Roma are also understood to be keen on bringing the imposing central midfielder over from Russia over the course of the next few months
