As quoted by The Daily Star, Stoke midfielder Giannelli Imbula has compared himself to Manchester City’s Yaya Toure.
At first, when seeing this headline, our resident Stoke fans here in the Transfer Tavern were a bit concerned that their midfield enforcer had lost the plot.
They were thinking that whilst he’s a good player, he’s not the calibre of the Ivorian and to suggest otherwise would be to invite unneeded ribbing.
However, Imbula in fact has only compared his situation of returning to playing to the City man, causing a sigh of relief amongst our Potters.
The 24-year-old said: “I’m happy to be back in the team and I have waited a long time. I have done the same thing as Toure.
“The difference is that he scored twice on his comeback match, but I have not scored.
“But he now seems to be playing more. I hope I can do the same. Now I have had the chance I want to play more.”
The Stoke man impressed at the weekend, in what was a rare start for him after being a pretty regular feature last year, as the club returned to winning ways at Watford, whilst Toure has enjoyed a defrosting of his relationship with Pep Guardiola in recent weeks and did indeed score on his return against Crystal Palace two games ago.
Stoke have recovered from a poor start to the season to now lie in eleventh place.
They have 16 points to their name and are just a win away from Everton in 7th.
