Stoke City’s quite miraculous transition from a ‘long-ball’, old fashioned side has been sensational for the Potters in the Transfer Tavern to watch.
It seems as if every year, the club manage to attract another illustrious Champions League winner to the Britannia Stadium, though perhaps even the Potters have become too ambitious?
Reports claim that the club have failed in their approach for Fenerbahce star Robin van Persie.
According to Turkish-Football, Stoke put in a loan bid for the Premier League winner and were close to sealing a deal until Fenerbahce and the 32-year old’s agent met last week.
The Dutchman’s agent and the Turkish club agreed a deal for the player to stay at the club, with another two years remaining on the star’s contract.
The former Arsenal and Manchester United man has been out of the Premier League for just a single season, but it now looks as though the veteran striker will continue playing in Turkey.
Bagging 16 goals last season in 31 appearances, it looks as though the former winner has not lost his touch.
What are your thoughts Stoke fans?! Would you have loved to see Van Persie in the red and white strip? Who do you think Mark Hughes should turn his attention to now? Let us know in the comments below!
