Despite the signing of Roque Mesa, our resident Swansea City fans are not convinced their side have done enough in this transfer window to keep them out of a relegation scrap this season.
The Swans’ highest profile signing is the Spaniard, who has arrived for £11.5m from Las Palmas. The 28-year-old sports a fully fledged moustache and has refused to trim it until he receives his first call up to the Spanish national side. He excelled for Las Palmas last season, claiming a 91.4% pass completion rate.
Despite the signing of Mesa, it’s Swansea defence which is a real concern. The Swans conceded 70 goals in the Premier league last season and it’s clear they need another goalkeeper to step up competition.
Lukas Fabianski has missed just three Premier League fixtures since cementing himself as the club’s undisputed first-choice following a 2014 move from Arsenal, but the Pole is not under any pressure by Swansea’s back-up ‘keepers.
Defensively, Victor Valdes enjoyed a hugely successful season with Middlesborough last term. Despite Boro being ultimately relegated, the Spaniard only conceded 53 league goals – a superior record to anyone in the bottom 10.
He represents an experienced shot-stopper who has won it all and would be the man to push Fabianski, or even assume the mantle as first choice goalkeeper.
Valdes is currently a free agent after leaving Middlesbrough by “mutual consent” in June. The 35-year-old put in eye-catching displays away at Manchester City and Swansea, as well as the home win over Bournemouth last season. He would cost Paul Clement’s side nothing, but could be worth everything.
Swansea fans, would you take him? Let us know your thoughts on Valdes in the comments!
