West Brom fans on Twitter were indebted to Sam Johnstone for Swansea win

It doesn’t happen very often where you find yourself praising your goalkeeper for a win that came about via a 3-0 margin. However, that’s exactly what happened last night as West Brom beat Swansea at The Hawthorns. The Baggies could do little to stop the visitors creating chances, and Sam Johnstone was equal to all of the Swans’ efforts.

The Baggies, in their first game since the abysmal sacking of Darren Moore, were helped on the night by Bersant Celina’s woeful penalty miss, yet in truth, they never looked like finding a way past Johnstone anyway. The ex-Manchester United shot-stopper was at the very top of his game as he continually denied Graham Potters’ side a way back into the game as his side took their chances up the other end.

Goals from Chris Brunt, Mason Holgate and Jay Rodriguez confirmed the win for the home side, yet none of the three goalscorers were ever going to be given the man of the match award ahead of their magnificent goalkeeper. His clean sheet last night was Johnstone’s 7th of the season, and the Baggies will all be hoping for a strong end to the season with a few more clean sheets for the 25-year-old.

The Baggies loved Johnstone’s heroic display and will be keen for more of the same when they face Brentford on Saturday.
