When Sheffield United revealed that they had completed the signing of John Egan from Brentford last year, their supporters had every right to be excited.
A stand-out performer for the Bees during his two-year spell at Griffin Park, the defender seemingly had all the ingredients needed to become a hero at Bramall Lane.
With Egan announcing on Twitter his delight towards joining his new club, loads of Blades fans reacted positively to his post.

Considering the fact that the Blades spent a club-record £4.1m fee (via the Yorkshire Evening Post) to bring him to South Yorkshire, there was a great deal of pressure for the defender to deliver.
Yet from the very outset of the 2018/19 campaign, it was obvious that Egan was well worth the money spent on him as he adapted almost immediately to Chris Wilder’s 3-5-2 formation.
A domineering presence at the back for the Blades, his composure whilst in possession combined with an outstanding ability to read the game saw him take the Championship by storm.
A mainstay in the Blades’ starting eleven throughout the year, Egan played a major role in helping his side pip Leeds United to automatic promotion as he was part of a defence which only conceded 41 goals in 46 games.
With his side now preparing for their return to the Premier League next season, there is no reason why the 26-year-old cannot compete against England’s very best club sides.
Arguably one of the best players in his position in the second tier during the 2018/19 campaign, Egan could prove to be the all-important difference between survival and relegation for the Blades next season.
