Birmingham City fans must be gutted with their side’s nine point deduction as they were right in the mix for a play-off place prior to the disappointing news. Meanwhile, Sheffield United are going strong in the race for an automatic promotion place, which would be an incredible achievement.
Interestingly, Birmingham City will welcome Sheffield United to St Andrew’s later on today in the Championship.
Today’s game could be won and lost in the middle of the park, so John Fleck and David Davis will have a big part to play for their respective clubs.
With that in mind, let’s compared the two players…
David Davis has impressed at times in the middle of midfield but he’s struggled to influence the game in the final third and he can be reckless at times, so Birmingham fans will be gutted to hear about Maikel Kieftenbeld’s injury.
He could still play a big part in the rest of the current campaign with relegation still a slight worry, but Garry Monk should look at bringing in another midfielder in the summer.
TT GRADE: B-
John Fleck, who joined for free (as per Transfermarkt), is enjoying one of the best seasons in his football career and it could turn out to be the most memorable season if he manages to help take Sheffield United into the top-flight.
He’s been nothing short of dominant in the middle of midfield as he constantly puts the opposition under pressure and wins the ball back, as well as producing two goals and seven assists.
TT GRADE: A
David Davis hasn’t quite been able to reach his full potential in the Championship this season, but the same can’t be said about John Fleck as he’s established himself as one of the best midfielders in the league.
With that being said, Fleck is making Davis look ordinary at this moment in time.
