TT Battle: Lewis Grabban vs Gary Hooper

Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest both find themselves battling for a play-off spot at this moment in time, but neither side could secure all three points last time out.

The Owls were on the receiving end of a crushing defeat at Hillsborough as a dominant Aston Villa managed to grab two late goals to seal all three points. Meanwhile, Forest looked helpless away at the New York Stadium as Paul Warne’s Rotherham United ripped them apart and damaged their play-off hopes.

Interestingly, Sheffield Wednesday will welcome Nottingham Forest to Hillsborough Stadium tonight in what could be a season-defining game for both sides, with a loss possibly bringing promotion dreams to an end.

Of course, two players who will no doubt play a key part at the pinnacle of the attack are Lewis Grabban and Gary Hooper, so it will be interesting to see who wins the battle.

With that in mind, let’s compared the two players…

Lewis Grabban, who joined for £6.12 million (as per Transfermarkt) back in the summer transfer window, has been one of the few shining lights for Nottingham Forest in recent times, despite spending a period of time out on the sidelines due to injury.

He managed to grab Forest’s only goal against Rotherham United last time out which took his tally to 17 goals for the season in all competitions.

Martin O’Neill will need to striker to be at this best from here on in until the end of the season if Forest are to stand any chance of reaching the play-offs, as other players have struggled to make an impact.

Indeed, judging from Gary Hooper’s first two appearances in the current campaign he fits in around a B rating as he’s settled down rather quickly after a long time out. He managed to bag his first goal of the season against Aston Villa last time out, so he could be the man to ignite the Owls’ play-off push from here on in.

He’s arguably one of the most dangerous strikers in the Championship on his day and he could definitely pose a threat at Hillsborough tonight, so it will be interesting to see how he fares.

Both players can be deadly on their day.

Lewis Grabban has had more opportunities to display his goalscoring abilities in the current campaign and it’s safe to say that he’s more than taken his opportunity, so he wins the battle of the strikers.

But, tonight’s contest could come down to who receives more service in what will be a tight game.
