West Brom can do so much better than moving for terrible reported transfer target

Ex-Ipswich striker, David McGoldrick, is a free agent attracting the interest of West Brom, say Football Insider.

The 30-year-old has spent the past 6 seasons with the Tractor Boys in the Championship, enjoying his best campaign in 2013/14 when he returned 14 league goals.

He has only managed 4, 5 and 4, in the past three seasons respectively though. So, if he does arrive at the Hawthorns this summer, don’t expect Baggies fans to get overexcited as McGoldrick’s numbers hardly suggest he’s the man to fire them back into the top flight.

Even on their limited budget, there are some more inspiring alternatives for Darren Moore to consider.

Nahki Wells

Transfermarkt value the Burnley man at £4 million, which does represent an outlet on behalf of West Brom, but in return they’d be getting a lot more goals than McGoldrick can promise.

Prior to a move to the top flight with Burnley last season, Wells was prolific for Huddersfield in the second tier.

He reached double figures in terms of league goals in each of his final 3 seasons for the Terriers.

At 28, the Bermudan international still has plenty to offer and will be desperate to make an impact with first team football after spending a year warming the bench for Sean Dyche.

Tammy Abraham

Abraham would prefer a loan move to a Premier League side, but given how poor his form in front of goal was for much of last season for Swansea, a step down to the Championship could be the best thing for him.

Tammy Abraham would get lots of goals at this level and his confidence would sky rocket once more. His influence may well return West Brom to the top flight and himself into England contention.
