West Brom should park Kemar Roofe interest and consider Stanislas swoop instead

According to Football Insider, West Brom are keen on bringing Kemar Roofe to the Hawthorns this summer.

Kemar Roofe joined Leeds United in the summer of 2016 from Oxford United, but it was only last season that he fully disclosed his quality to the Elland Road crowds though.

11 goals and 3 assists across 36 Championship appearances is a great return from the wide attacker.

Since suffering relegation from the Premier League, West Brom have seen a parade of stars depart the club this summer, leaving new boss Darren Moore with a big rebuild job on his hands.

Roofe is a plausible and attainable target, but West Brom should be setting their sights even higher. Instead of the 25-year-old Leeds man (or even as well as, given the Baggies need all the numbers they can get), Moore should look to bring in Junior Stanislas this summer if he is serious about reinstating his side’s top flight credentials.

The Breakdown

Kemar Roofe is valued at £3 million by Transfermarkt, whereas Transfermarkt rate Stanislas at £4 million. Whilst this suggests the Bournemouth man would be the more expensive option, he is currently entering the final year of his contract on the south coast which could see the Cherries willing to cash in on the player this summer in a cut-price deal.

The 28-year-old’s all-round game would bring a lot more to Moore’s squad than Roofe would. Stanislas’ creativity and drive allow him to break down tight defences, whilst his pace remains a weapon capable of terrifying almost any back line.

Ideally, Darren Moore should aim to bring in both Stanislas and Roofe, for a combined fee in the region of £10-15 million. The players’ shared traits of versatility means they’d both be able to feature in the same starting XI for the Baggies, whilst two such exciting signings would truly signal the beginning of the Moore era.

If a deal for both players proves impossible though, West Brom should prioritise signing Stanislas, as he is the man most capable of becoming the lynchpin and orchestrator of the club’s new-look attacking line up.
