West Bromwich Albion overcame Hull City 1-0 in a narrow victory for the Midlands side with one defender proving to be colossal in defence.
The Baggies snatched all three points after Jake Livermore struck a fierce drive from the edge of the box following a short corner routine from Slaven Bilic’s side (via BBC).
Livermore was in superb form in the centre of midfield as he helped the Baggies to victory. He completed the second-most tackles, the most interceptions and made joint-most clearances in a brilliant defensive display (via WhoScored)
Matheus Pereira continued to be the creative spark for the side, having the most shots on goals and playing the most key passes of any West Brom player as he proved crucial in attack.
However, it was Semi Ajayi, who went seemingly unnoticed with his performance in the centre of defence. The 26-year-old was a behemoth in defence, making the joint second-most interceptions and the joint-most clearances.
Express and Star agreed with this assessment of Ajayi’s performance as they gave him an eight out of 10, commenting on his defensive performance.
They said: “Made one excellent shoulder-to-shoulder challenge on Grosicki in the box and impressed overall on what was his 26th birthday. With Hull playing a fluid front four, Ajayi was dragged all over the place. But the Nigerian international stood up to the task well.” (Source: Express and Star)
