Former Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland striker Darrent Bent believes Matheus Pereira would be a great signing for West Brom in the summer, as they look to bolster their squad for the possibility of Premier League football next season.
The Brazilian is currently on loan at the Baggies, and with the club currently in an automatic promotion place and six points clear of third placed Fulham (BBC Sport), the attacker could easily be attracted to remain at the Hawthorns if they do go up.
Speaking to Football Insider about Albion potentially signing the player, Bent said, “Absolute snippet. I’m all for them low prices, for West Brom that would be a fantastic signing. As we’ve said, when you’re in the Championship, it’s a completely different shopping list when you’re in the Premier League.”
It’s hard to disagree with Bent here, it would be a fantastic signing. This season, Pereira has played 33 times in the Championship for West Brom, per Transfermarkt, scoring six goals and assisting 16 times. This is the most goal contributions a player has for the side, which along with the fact that he has also averaged 2.5 key passes per game (via Sofascore) highlights how key he has been to their great campaign so far.
He is currently on loan from Sporting Lisbon but it is reported by Football Insider that the Championship side has a clause in his temporary deal which states that if they get promoted, they can sign him for £8 million. At that price he would surely be a bargain given his impressive stats this term combined with the fact that he is only 23-years-old and could well significantly improve in the future.
